Association Board

At the start of the Amherst Symphony’s second season in 1948, the Eggertsville-Snyder Rotary Club undertook the financial sponsorship and business management of the orchestra as one of its community service projects.  One of the accomplishments was securing 400 patrons to contribute to the orchestra fund.  With the project successfully organized, the Rotary members felt that by 1950 the time had arrived when it should be expanded to be an instrument of the community at large.  A group of 90 area citizens were invited to form a board of directors.  The directors organized the Amherst Symphony Orchestra Association, Inc., a non-profit community enterprise.  Its first president in 1950 was Loyal J. Murphy. Since that time, the Association has set the policies, initiated the publicity and promotions, and supervised the finances of the orchestra.  Many members of the Association spend countless hours working on committees responsible for such concerns as financial support, hospitality, music, guest artists, programs, publicity, ushers, history and others.
